I gained a lot of new skills working on Assignment 5, mostly concerning different functions of power point. I had no previous experience creating a presentation that did not use linear navigation. I had to learn how to disable it, and I had to learn how to link slides together in a way that made sure there was always movement available, so you don't get stuck on any one slide. I really liked this assignment because while it was more challenging, it also allowed for a lot of creativity. I think next time I'd like to figure out how to implement timing functions, so I don't have to create a slide for the question, and a separate slide for the answer.
I think data collection tools can be very useful in the classroom, and I can see myself using them in a myriad of ways. I think they'd be extremely helpful in communicating with parents about the student and finding out about the student's life outside of the classroom. I could create surveys to send out for parents to let me know important information about their child that I can use throughout the year. This could include things like birthdays, allergies, or any other information they see necessary for me to know. This would be an easy way to collect information about my students, and also a great way to show parents that I care about their child individually.
I think I'd like to include learning more about technological design as a SMART goal. By that, I mean how to design logos, presentations, or even things like infographics to make them as informational and aesthetically pleasing as possible. I think for specifics, I can focus on infographics, because it's the most measurable and it will be relevant to not only my career, but my education too. I can measure it by 'grading' the infographics I do make on design principles, that way it becomes less biased and can have a fixed scale of what is good and what isn't. As far as time, I think I'd like this to be a semi short-term goal, because I'd like to have it done by the time I get into the Elementary Education program.
